ANNUAL SHOW

JUDGE'S STATEMENT

 

Elin Pendelton (Thomas)

 

 

   Jurying a show is the most challenging demonstration of what I know as an artist,

teacher of design and art appreciation. Jurying forces me to stop being a realistic painter

of stories, and makes me gather all my skills and experience to bring an honest viewpoint

to the work presented for viewing.

   I will always give merit to those artists using good technique for the medium and who

use design principles and elements, however the variety of subject and techniques unique

to this venue made selecting for awards most challenging!

  The awards for this show were presented based upon several things:

1. Use of the medium, technical excellence.

2. Subject matter and story content

3. And this one especially—the ability of the piece to connect on one or more levels with me

as an artist, traveler, animal lover, and woman. Jurying is subjective, there is no doubt.

There are so many wonderful pieces in this show, and each, having been selected from a much

larger group of works, deserves honor for design, content and “connectedness”. As I sit here

looking at the works in this show, I feel a great sense of awe and honor that it was my decision to

choose those that I felt were above the others. I thank you so much for allowing me the privilege

of viewing your work.
